About Brigidine College

Brigidine College St Ives is a Catholic Independent Secondary School for Girls, located on Mona Vale Road, St Ives.  Founded by the Brigidine Sisters over 60 years ago, the school models the charisma of St Brigid, Fortiter et Suaviter – strength and gentleness.

With 900 girls currently enrolled, the College attracts students from the North Shore, the Forest area, Northern Beaches and across to Sydney’s North West.

The College prides itself on providing a holistic education for girls combining the academic, spiritual, physical and cultural dimensions of learning.  With outstanding academic results, a high level of achievement in the performing arts and sport and a strong commitment to service, girls at Brigidine are challenged to think and experience beyond their boundaries, to have the courage to question their world, to be true to themselves and to honour their spiritual heritage.

This is a school where girls can be themselves, as glorious as that is.  They can laugh, cry,  work hard or run around and be a little foolish in the playground, on the stage or at their sport carnivals.  They don’t have to impress everyone; just learn to be themselves.  And while they are learning how to be themselves, they are in an environment that supports their growth, develops their resilience, allows them to make mistakes and helps them understand and develop the solution.  At Brigidine, the girls understand that they are part of a community of learners where collaboration among students and teachers is paramount, where risk is encouraged and both failure and success have their place in the learning continuum.

The diversity of the curriculum at Brigidine allows girls to grow in understanding across the sciences and technologies, mathematics, languages and the creative and performing arts to name a few.  The diversity of their study choices at universities reflects the variety of curriculum opportunities that have allowed them to pursue their passions.  Opportunities also abound beyond the curriculum in music, sport, Duke of Edinburgh Award, performing arts, social justice and service.  Successful and valued Brigidine women are found in every industry and corner of the globe, making their mark.  Brigidine girls are taught leadership skills and are provided with opportunities to lead from the time they arrive.  They are inspired to value learning, to be true to themselves and to honour their spiritual heritage.

Brigidine College has an outstanding academic record.  As commented by Sue Martin, Deputy Principal Teaching and Learning, “2017 has continued the trend of exceptional individual results across all subjects.  Our girls are encouraged to pursue subjects they enjoy and in which they feel they have a talent.  They are also encouraged to pursue rigorous courses, according to their strengths.  The breadth and depth of their achievement and the powerful contribution these choices have made to the girls’ ATARs is a testament to the value of this approach.”

Some of the highlights for the Class of 2017 include:

  • 3rd, 6th & 7th in State for Drama
  • 10th in State for Textiles & Design
  • 82 students (63%) appear on the Distinguished Achievers List
