Arden Anglican School is an inspiring learning community that engages the mind, nurtures the spirit and nourishes the body within a caring Christian environment. At Arden we regard sport and academics as pillars that work together to develop our students into confident, capable global citizens prepared for a bright future.
The school promotes physical activity to all students and provides opportunities for participation at all levels of skill. Our students are encouraged to participate in sport without the fear of failure and to feel comfortable trying a new skill or sport for the first time. They are encouraged to perform at their best, but most of all they are encouraged to enjoy themselves on the sporting field.
The Arden School Values – Compassion, Service, Respect, Hope, Love and Courage – shape who we are. Each value is underpinned by the Bible’s teaching about God’s character and His goodness, and our hope and prayer is that students at Arden grow to become people who reflect them. These values not only define who we strive to be as a school, they also define what our students strive to reflect in any sporting endeavours.
Compassion is practised through good sportsmanship and humility; Service is exhibited by commitment to training and providing your best personal effort; Respect is demonstrated by participating with integrity, effort and deference towards fellow competitors. Hope is involved through goal setting and displaying motivation; Love is exemplified by camaraderie, belonging, being a positive team member and demonstrating a spirit of enjoyment; and Courage is shown through leading by example and resilience.
Students at Arden are encouraged to take part in individual and team sports from Kindergarten to Year 12, however Saturday sport is not a compulsory school component.
Junior Campus sport participation begins with a gross motor program and develops into co-curricular and inter-school sport opportunities. After school, co-curricular sport sessions for Years 3-6 students include Sport Fitness and Sport Training and Skill Development. Inter-school sport opportunities are played during the school week and include Basketball, Football, Netball and Touch Football.
Students in Years 3-6 can represent Arden at sport specific Gala Days developing skills in AFL, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Netball, Touch Football and Triathlon.
At the Secondary Campus, students in Years 7-12 are offered a wide choice of representative opportunities with training and fixtures staged before or after school hours, during the school week. Sports include Basketball, Cricket, Football, Futsal, Netball, Cricket, Touch Football and Volleyball.
Through the School House System, all Arden students are encouraged to participate in competitive and non-competitive activities throughout the school year. The annual Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming Carnivals are hotly contested amongst the Birnam, Jenolan and Sherwood House members. By taking part in these events every student, no matter their skill level, can contribute to their House by collecting points toward the awarding of the House Shield at the end of the year.
Arden is part of the Hills Zone Sporting Association (HZSA) which provides a pathway to state representation and can nominate suitably talented athletes to trial for zone and state sporting teams and further representation.
The school has experience supporting elite athletes to ensure training regimes and study requirements are maintained with many students having participated at an elite level across a range of sporting disciplines whilst completing their schooling.
