Motivated, confident and life-ready is how Redlanders leave the School’s gates at the end of their secondary school education. With a commitment to developing the unique light in each child, a Redlands education is well-rounded and contemporary, equipping students with the skills they need to go out into the world and make a positive contribution.
The Redlands coeducational learning community recognises the benefits that come from students learning and leading alongside each other. With a choice of senior year studies of both HSC and IB, and an extensive range of Sport, Performing Arts, Outdoor Education, Leadership and Service programs on offer, students are given every opportunity to develop their individual talents and passions.
Redlands has offered scholarships to exceptional students for over 100 years and today, scholarships are awarded in the areas of Academic, Merit/All-rounder, Music and Dance.
In addition, the Means-tested scholarship supports those students who demonstrate passion and excellence and might otherwise not be able to attend the School.
Redlands Principal Sean Corcoran commented that scholarship students contribute significantly to the school’s culture.
“They are shining examples the school values and motto in action, as they contribute their best to everything they do.”
“Scholarship students are strong contributors to Redlands, taking on leadership positions, acting as mentors and exploring their own diverse interests.
“Their passion and engagement in the school community is an inspiration to students and teachers alike.
Mr Corcoran added that Redlands scholarship students stay very connected to the community long after they have graduated, returning – often from overseas – to inspire current students by participating in career mentoring events, assemblies and other alumni activities.
“The Redlands Scholarship program does call for students to perform at a high level in their scholarship area, and also to stretch themselves beyond that area. That is where we see incredible growth and courage, for students to try new things and to be actively involved in all aspects of school life.
“Redlands Scholars therefore become inspiring examples of the many ways students can contribute to their community through day-to-day activities at school. In turn this encourages all and ensures that students interact with a diversity of peers, ideas and experiences which broadens their outlook as a whole.
“This fulsome approach to school life is why we so often see our students – and particularly our scholarship students – go on to pursue wonderful opportunities internationally and throughout Australia.”
In recent years Redlands Scholars have been accepted into Oxford University and Cambridge University and been awarded scholarships to the University of St Andrews, University of Toronto and Australian National University, undertaking tertiary study in diverse areas including Mathematics, Medicine, Law, International Relations and Psychology.
For those Scholars who specialise in the creative arts, recent Redlands graduates have gone on to attend the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and The Julliard School in New York. Others have become professional company members with the Australian Ballet and appeared in international films as well as programs such as Channel 7’s The Voice.
Mr Corcoran concluded that “the diverse learning environment on offer at Redlands allows students to pursue their interests and flourish in them, while also pushing their boundaries.
“For more than 140 years, students have been graduating from Redlands, well-prepared for life after school, and empowered to bring their light to everything they choose to pursue.”
